Fantastic relaxing location to escape all stress. A village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a district of the municipality of Montieri, province of Grosseto, in the Colline Metallifere area, similar to the Erzgebirge in Germany. The sea is 35 minutes away by car. Pisa airport can be reached in 60 minutes and Rome in 120 minutes. The cities of Siena and Volterra or Florence are also not far away, as is San Gimignano - the Manhattan of Tuscany can be reached in 60 minutes.
For shopping, pharmacy, art visits, shopping mile, restaurants, cafes you need 5-10 min by car to the next small town or village. The Tyrrhenian Sea in Follonica is just 35 minutes away for a walk on the beach, fishing, bathing, swimming, or along the coast for diving or snorkeling. The island of Elba can be reached by ferry from Piombino in 60 minutes. There is fresh water, a river, mountain bike trails, cycle paths and a golf course nearby.
Massa Marittima is located in the area of the famous metalliferous hills. This beautiful art town is famous for its monuments. Massa Marittima conveys a pure Tuscan feeling: the lively little town attracts visitors with its historical flair and magnificent views as far as the sea on the Gulf of Follonica, as the ferry also takes all guests from Piombino to the island of ELBA, which is very easy to see. The medieval town of Massa Marittima is located slightly off the beaten track on a hill overlooking the Maremma plain. The center of the town is the cathedral with the beautiful Piazza ...
The Montieri area is characterized by large wooded areas, which in the past were the main source of the fuel needed for mining and the raw material required for the construction of reinforcements for tunnels and buildings around the mines.
The hill of Montieri (altitude 1052 m) has always aroused much interest from a geological and naturalistic point of view; its geological conformation is similar to that of the nearby Cornate di Gerfalco : rich in various types of Alberese stones (or " limestones ") and limestones . Also noteworthy is the Ritrovoli hill (altitude 1015 m), the highest point of the Carline di Travale. The Cornate di Gerfalco form the highest relief of the metalliferous hills at an altitude of 1060 meters. The Cecina river has its source in the hydrographic basin of the Cornate, Carline and Poggio di Montieri. A tributary of the Merse rises on the southern slope of the Montieri hill, known as Savioli; at the top stands a monumental iron cross, erected in 1961.
At lower altitudes, due to the relative proximity to the sea and the low altitude, there are Mediterranean species such as holm oaks, cork oaks and an undergrowth of heather and broom; as one climbs higher, typical essences of the lower mountains appear, such as Turkey oaks, downy oaks and large chestnut groves.
Travel accounts from the 18th to 19th centuries mention the numerous minerals found in the area, including the crystal formations known as "Montieri crystals" mentioned by Targioni Tozzetti in 1770.
